Mass wedding for 1,111 couples in Kano

THE Kano State Hisbah board said it conducted mass wedding for 1,111 couples, while 35 others were disqualified as a result of cases of HIV/AIDS and pregnancy.
This came as the agency said it imposed a fine of N50,000 on any groom who eventually divorced his wife, noting that this was to checkmate the rising cases of divorce in the state.
According to the state commandant general of Hisbah Board, Sheik Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the agency organised the mass wedding for 2,000 couples in four batches, adding that the agency would continue to screen couples for wedding.
“Fine of N50,000 is imposed on any groom who divorces his wife without genuine reasons,” he said, adding that “it is part of the agreement reached with all the couples, so as to reduce the rising cases of divorce in the state.”
Sheik Daurawa, however, expressed satisfaction over the success recorded so far by the state Hisbah board, while he congratulated the couples on their marriages.
The fathia was conducted by the Chief Imam of Kano, Professor Sani Zaharadeen and attracted high delegation of government officials led by the state deputy governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
